Hugh Jackman Set for Movie Musical Adaptation of Les Miserables

Hugh Jackman will appear in the movie version of the musical Les Miserables. The Tony Award-winning actor announced his involvement with the project during an interview on the radio station CHFI 98.1 in Toronto.

Jackman won the Tony for his portrayal of the late singer Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz. Among his other stage credits are A Steady Rain and Oklahoma! His film credits include X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Australia, The Prestige, and The Fountain. As previously announced, Jackman will be offering a two-week engagement of his show Hugh Jackman in Concert at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre, July 5-14.

As previously reported, the screenplay for the film will be written by playwright William Nicholson, based upon the Victor Hugo book and the stage musical adaptation. Cameron Mackintosh is producing the film, which will be utilizing the musical’s original score by Claude-Michel Schoenberg and Alain Boublil.
