It’s The Tony Awards for movie people!

The 85th Annual Academy Award nominations were announced this morning, with Broadway and off-Broadway well-represented by standout solo performances or ensemble films which thrived due in part to their stage-friendly cast lists.

Lincoln, the presidential bio-pic which employed over a dozen stage vets (Lee Pace, Beth Marvel, David Strathairn, James Spader, Hal Holbrook, Jeremy Strong, Michael Stuhlbarg, David Costabile, Stephen Spinella, Colman Domingo, Bill Camp, Byron Jennings, Richard Topol, Adam Driver, S. Epatha Merkerson, Julie White!) leads the pack with 12 nominations, including a Best Screenplay nod for Tony Award-winning scribe Tony Kushner, Best Supporting Actor credit for Tommy Lee Jones and another Best Actor acknowledgement for title star Daniel Day Lewis.

Les Miz, the live-singing big screen adaptation of the Broadway classic landed 8 total nominations, including Best Picture, Best Leading Actor (Hugh Jackman), Best Supporting Actress (Anne Hathaway) and Best Original Song (“Suddenly”).

Jackman is joined by Broadway’s (and Williamstown Theater Festival enthusiast) Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) and Tony Award winning Fences star Denzel Washington (Flight) in the Lead Actor category, while current The Heiress star Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) reps the Rialto on the Lead Actress front.
