The Geffen Playhouse has extended the West Coast premiere run of Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins, which will now perform through Sunday, February 19.

Kathleen Turner stars in the title role, with the cast also featuring Matthew Van Oss as
the “helper.” David Esbjornson directs the play, written by twin sisters Allison Engel & Margaret Engel.

The show is based on the writings of the late political journalist Molly Ivins, the brassy Texan reporter whose liberal journalism skyrocketed her to the national stage.

Turner originated her role during the show’s 2010 world premiere from Philadelphia Theatre Company. Among her Broadway credits are High, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Graduate, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof . Her many film credits include War of the Roses, Romancing the Stone, Prizzi’s Honor, Body Heat, and Peggy Sue Got Married.
