Deborah Warner will direct Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s The School for Scandal, in a production to run May 11 – June 18, 2011 at the Barbican in London, according to a report on the website for the U.K. magazine The Stage. Casting and creative team will be announced at a later date.

Sheridan’s comedy, written in 1777, focuses on the backbiting and gossip that fills the worlds of some of London’s elite.

Warner recently directed a revival of Mother Courage and Her Children at the National Theatre and staged Messiah for English National Opera. Among her other credits are Happy Days, Medea, and The Waste Land, all of which were seen in both London and New York. She was made an Officier of the Ordre des Arts and des Lettres in 2000 and a CBE in 2006.
