Complete Casting Announced for RSC’s Matilda, A Musical; Matthew Warchus Directs

The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced complete casting for Matilda, A Musical, to run November 9 – January 30 at the company’s Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. As previously announced, Matthew Warchus will direct the production, which will feature music direction and orchestrations by Chris Nightingale and choreography by Peter Darling.

Based on Roald Dahl’s 1988 children’s novel, the show has a book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. The central character is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her parents but impresses her schoolteacher and, over the course of her first term at school, teacher and pupil have a profound effect on each other’s lives.

The company will feature Adrianna Bertola, Josie Griffiths, and Kerry Ingram, alternating the title role, along with Lauren Ward (Miss Honey), Bertie Carvel (Miss Trunchbull), Paul Kaye (Mr. Wormwood), Josie Walker (Mrs Wormwood), and Peter Howe (Michael).

There will also be three casts of young performers who alternate with each of the female leads, including Jake Bailey, James Beesley, Kuan Frye (Bruce), Ruby Bridle, Rebecca Stoll, Misty May Tindall (Lavender), Jadie-Rose Hobson, Katie Lee, Lara Weaver (Amanda), Arthur Byrne, Robert Madge, Adam Scotland (Nigel), and Jack Christou, Toby Murray, Jake Pratt (Eric). The members of the alternating children’s ensemble will be Annabel Parsons, Shyanne Sanders, Thomas McGarrity, Charlie Callaghan, Ellie Simons, Jessica Adair, Elliot Allinson, Callum Henderson, Jessica Daugirda and Daisy Brophy. Two additional children’s ensemble members will be announced at a later date.

The creative team will include Rob Howell (production design), Hugh Vanstone (lighting design), Simon Baker (sound design), and Paul Kieve (illusions).
