Tony Award Winner Tom Morris to Direct Swallows and Amazons in the West End

Tony Award winner Tom Morris will direct the Bristol Old Vic’s production of a stage adaptation of Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons, to run December 15 – January 14 at the West End’s Vaudeville Theatre, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com.


With a book by Helen Edmundson and songs by Neil Hannon, the new musical play, set in 1929, tells of the school holiday exploits that young people from two families have with their sailboats, the Swallow and the Amazon. Casting will be announced in the near future.

Tom Morris, with Marianne Elliott, won a Tony Award for directing War Horse. Among his other credits are Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, The Wooden Frook, Ben Hur, Disembodied, and A Matter of Life and Death. In addition, he is artistic director of Bristol Old Vic and was an assosiate director for the National Theatre for five years.


The creative team will be comprised of Robert Innes, who will provide scenic design and will co-design costumes with Liesel Corp., sound designer James Farncombe, and sound designer James Barnes. Musical direction and arrangements will be by Sam Kenyon, with additional arrangements by Andrew Skeet.
