Gary Wilmot will star in Radio Times, to run August 4 – September 24 at the Watermill Theatre, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com. Caroline Leslie will direct the production, which will have musical supervision and arrangements by Paul Herbert and choreography by Alistair David.
With a book by Abi Grant and songs by Noel Gay, the show focuses on the struggles of the members of a BBC light entertainment show that’s broadcasting for the first time to live America, but is doing so with a limited cast and no star. Among the numbers in the musical are “There’s Something About A Soldier”, “Run, Rabbit, Run”, “Who’s Been Polishing The Sun?” and “Hey Little Hen”.
Wilmot’s stage credits include the West End productions of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Bang and Me and My Girl, as well as The Invisible Man at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
Along with news of Wilmot’s casting, the Watermill has announced that it’s upcoming season will also include Neil Bartlett’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations (September 29 – November 5), and Toby Hulse’s adaptation of Kenneth Grahame’s Wind in the Willows (November 24 – January 7), to be directed by Robin Belfield.
