Hayley Mills and Belinda Lang to Star in Royal & Derngate’s Ladies in Lavender
Royal & Derngate is set to present the world premiere stage production of Ladies in Lavender, April 6-28. Robin LeFevre will direct. The play is a co-production with Daniel Schumann and Lee Dean in association with Charles Diamond.
Adapted for the stage by Shaun McKenna, Ladies in Lavender is based on Charles Dance’s screenplay for the film starring Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. The play tells the story of two sisters in a close-knit fishing village in 1936 Cornwall. When a handsome Polish-Jewish violinist is washed ashore, the sisters nurse him back to health.
The cast will star Hayley Mills as Ursula Widdington and Belinda Lang as Janet Widdington and will also feature Carol Macready (Dorcas), Robert Rees (Andrea Marowski), Robert Duncan (Dr. Mead), and Abigail Thaw (Olga Danilof).
The design team will include Liz Ascroft (set design), Mick Hughes (lighting design), and John Leonard (sound design). Music will be Nigel Hess’ music from the film.
