Michael Ball, Daniel Evans, Henry Goodman, Imelda Staunton Among Theatre Awards UK Nominees

The Theatrical Management Association has announced nominations for its Theatre Awards UK 2012, honoring creative excellence and outstanding achievement on and off stage throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The awards will be presented at a lunchtime ceremony at the Guildhall, on Sunday October 28.

Nominees for Best Performance in a Musical include Sweeney Todd co-stars Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton, as well as Daniel Evans for his work in Company.

Best Performance in a Play nominees are Leanne Best (The Match Box), Henry Goodman (The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui), and Tim Pigott-Smith (King Lear), while Best Supporting Performance nominations have gone to Stephen Boxer (Written on the Heart), Claire-Louise Caldwell (Beautiful Thing), and Aidan McArdle (Democracy).

David Hare’s South Downs, Sarah Ruhl‘s In the Next Room, and Duncan MacMillan’s Lungs are competing for Best New Play, while the aforementioned productions of Company, directed by Jonathan Munby, and Sweeney Todd, directed by Jonathan Kent are competing with the Roger Haines-directed The Go-Between for Best Musical Production.
