Ragtime, Midsummer Night’s Dream Set for 2012 Season at London’s Open Air Theatre

The Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park has announced the two productions that it will present in repertory for its 2012 season, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com.


The theater’s opening offering will be Ragtime, which will begin performances on May 18, before officially opening on May 28. With music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and a book by Terrence McNally, the show, based on E.L. Doctorow’s novel of the same name, centers on the converging stories of an affluent white family and an African-American couple at the beginning of the 20th century. Timothy Sheader and Liam Steel will co-direct the production.

Sheader and Steel will also stage the the second offering at the venue, Shakespeare’s romantic comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which will join in the repertory season on June 2.

Casting and creative team will be announced in the near future.
