OperaUpClose’s production of La Boheme will transfer to the Soho Theatre this summer, running July 27-September 4. Robin Norton-Hale has directed the production, which features musical direction by Andrew Charity.

The production uses a new translation by Norton-Hale, which relocates the action from 1830s Paris to modern-day London. The piece revolves around Mimi and Rodolfo, profoundly in love but unable to find a way to make their relationship work. Mimi has moved to England from Romania and is working as a cleaner. She lives alone in a bedsit, amid a group of middle-class boys who are indulging in a carefree, artistic, Bohemian lifestyle; spending the little money they have on nights out and parties.

La Boheme features set and costume design by Kate Guinness and Lucy Read. The production opened on December 8 and will conclude its often-extended run at the Cock Tavern on May 15.
