Cirque du Soleil has been asked by MGM Resorts to replace its current show at the Aria Resort & Casino at CityCenter, Viva Elvis, according to a report in The Las Vegas Sun.

The Sun cites a statement from MGM, which notes, “As attendance levels have not been meeting expectations, we have asked our partners at Cirque du Soleil to replace the show. We will work closely with Cirque as we explore future entertainment options.” It is estimated that Viva Elvis will close by the end of 2012.

Viva Elvis celebrates Elvis Presley with a fusion of dance, acrobatics and live music, embodying the freedom, excitement and turbulence of his era. The production is directed by choreographer Vincent Paterson.
