Avi Hoffman, J. Barry Lewis, Laura Turnbull, et al. Win Silver Palm Awards

The winners of the Silver Palm Awards have been announced. The prizes will be given in a ceremony to be held on October 25 at The Green Room at the end of the South Florida Theatre Festival in Fort Lauderdale.

Performers who have been recognized with the awards are Avi Hoffman, Laura Turnbull, Nick Duckart, Jackie Rivera, David Hemphill, and Erin Joy Schmidt, as well as Dan Kelly, who is receiving a prize in recognition of both his performance in and direction of The Drowsy Chaperone at Broward Stage Door.

Two organizations have won awards Caldwell Theatre Company for its concert presentations of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Sunday in the Park with George and Into the Woods; and New Theatre, in recognition of its work producing new plays.

Other awards have gone to director J. Barry Lewis for his direction of Copenhagen and Three Tall Women at Palm Beach Dramaworks; and playwright Christopher Demos-Brown for When the Sun Shone Brighter, produced at Florida Stage.
