Preston Whiteway has signed a new three year agreement to continue as executive director of the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center.

Whiteway joined the O’Neill in 2004 as General Manager and was promoted to his current position in 2007, succeeding Amy Sullivan. Since that time, he has led the organization and its many programs dedicated to discovering and developing new artists and new work for the stage. Last June, he accepted the 2010 Tony Award for Regional Theatre on the O’Neill’s behalf.

In announcing the agreement, Chairman of the Board Tom Viertel has remarked, “Preston has taken the O’Neill to new heights in every way. His professionalism, organizational skills and talent are at the heart of what we have been able to accomplish over the last three years. I look forward to working with him as we move forward into the next, exciting stage of the O’Neill’s growth and its increasing impact on the world of American theater.”
