Steppenwolf Theatre Company has announced the five plays that will comprise its 2012-2013 subscription season, along with preliminary casting for the productions.

David Lindsay-Abaire’s Good People will be the theater’s first offering for the year, running September 11 – November 11. K. Todd Freeman will direct Alana Arenas, Mariann Mayberry, and Molly Regan in this play that centers on a woman struggling to get by in a rough economy.

Arenas and Freeman will also be featured in the world premiere of Tarell Alvin McCraney’s look at a family confronting its secrets, Head of Passes (April 4 – June 9), to be directed by Tina Landau. The cast will feature also Jon Michael Hill, Tim Hopper and James Vincent Meredith.

Also on the Steppenwolf schedule is Stephen Adly Guirgis’ look at the tumultuous relationship shared by a recovering alcoholic and his girlfriend, The Motherf**ker with the Hat (December 27 – March 3), to be directed by Anna D. Shapiro, who also helmed the play’s Broadway debut.

Austin Pendleton will direct a revival of Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party (January 24 – May 19), which centers on the couple that runs a boarding house, their long-time tenant and some unexpected visitors. The company will feature Ian Barford, Francis Guinan, Moira Harris, John Mahoney and Sophia Sinise. And the final offering of the company’s 2012-2013 season will be Amy Herzog’s look at two expats in Paris, Belleville, to be directed by Anne Kaufmann and feature Arenas along with Kate Arrington.
