The West End musical Groundhog Day, which opened at London's Old Vic Theatre on August 16 and was previously been announced as headed for Broadway, will open at the August Wilson Theatre on April 17, with previews beginning in March. The long-running musical Jersey Boys will end its run at the venue on January 15.

Groundhog Day is inspired by the 1993 film that tells the story of Pittsburgh weatherman Phil Connors, who finds himself caught in a time loop that forces him to repeat the same day, Groundhog Day, over and over. It features a score by Matilda The Musical composer Tim Minchin, and is directed by Matlida's Matthew Warchus, with original screen writer Danny Rubin providing the book.

The London production stars Tony nominee Andy Karl as Phil Connors, a role originated on-screen by Bill Murray. Carlyss Carlyss Peer takes on the role of Rita Hanson, originated by Andie MacDowell.

Broadway casting will be announced at a later date.
