Tony Award winner John Lithgow will star in David Auburn’s The Columnist, which will begin previews on April 3 at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on Broadway. Daniel Sullivan will direct the production, set to officially open on April 25.

The Columnist centers on the syndicated newspaper columnist Joseph Alsop, and his place in the Washington political world. Additional casting will be announced shortly.

Lithgow won Tony Awards for his work in Sweet Smell of Success and The Changing Room. He was also Tony-nominated for his performances in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, M. Butterfly, and Requiem for a Heavyweight. Among his most recent stages appearances are Mr. and Mrs. Fitch off-Broadway and Stories by Heart, which he has performed in New York and around the country. In addition, Lithgow is well known for his starring role in the TV series Third Rock from the Sun, for which he received three Emmys, a Golden Globe, two SAG awards, and The American Comedy Award.
