PHOTO FLASH: Magic Johnson Visits Rehearsal for Broadway’s Magic/Bird

NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson stopped by the box office and a recent rehearsal for the world premiere Broadway production of Eric Simonson’s Magic/Bird, which will begin performances at the Longacre Theatre on March 21, prior to an official opening on April 11. Thomas Kail will direct.

The show chronicles the rivalry, friendship, and intertwined life stories of NBA stars Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Larry Bird. Kevin Daniels will play Johnson and and Tug Coker will play Bird.

The company will also feature Deirdre O’Connell (Georgia Bird/Shelly/Patricia Moore), Peter Scolari (Red Auerbach/Jerry Buss/Pat Riley), Rob Ray Manning, Jr. (Michael Cooper/Henry Alvarado/Frank), and Francois Battiste (Jon Lennox/Ron Baxter/Willy).

The creative team will include David Korins (scenic design), Howell Binkley (lighting design), Paul Tazewell (costume design), Nevin Steinberg (sound design). and Wendall K Harrington (projection design)
