Rod Gilfry and Carmen Cusack to Head Cast of South Pacific Tour

Grammy-nominated opera singer Rod Gilfry and Carmen Cusack will star as Emile de Becque and Nellie Forbush, respectively, in the national tour of South Pacific, which will launch at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Theatre, September 18-October 25. As on Broadway, Bartlett Sher will direct.

Lincoln Center Theater’s production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical won seven 2008 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival. The musical is based on James Michener’s Pulitzer Prize winning book Tales of the South Pacific.

The touring cast will also include Anderson Davis (Lt. Cable), Matthew Saldivar (Luther Billis), Keala Settle (Bloody Mary), Gerry Becker (Capt. Brackett), Peter Rini (Cmdr. Harbison), Sumie Maeda (Liat), Rusty Ross (Professor) and Genson Blimline (Stewpot). The ensemble will feature Christopher Carl, Eric L. Christian, Jacqueline Colmer, Mike Evairste, Kate Fahrner, Nicholas Galbraith, Chad Jennings, Christopher Johnstone, Kristie Kerwin, Jodi Kimura, Joe Langworth, Diane Phelan, John Pinto Jr, Travis Robertson, Josh Rouah, Kristen J. Smith, Matt Stokes, Gregory Williams, and Victor Wisehart.

The creative team includes Christopher Gattelli (musical staging), Michael Yeargan (set), Donald Holder (lighting), Scott Lehrer (sound), and Ted Sperling (music direction). A full orchestra will perform the original orchestrations by Robert Russell Bennett and dance and incidental music arranged by Trude Rittmann.

Following the San Francisco engagement, the show will travel to cities including Raleigh, Dallas, Tampa, Seattle, Memphis, Atlanta, Hartford, St. Paul, Des Moines, Los Angeles, and Denver.
