The Underpants

In The Underpants, Steve Martin’s adaptation of a 1911 German farce (Die Hose by Carl Sternheim), Theo Maske’s orderly but lowly clerical life is threatened when his young wife Louise’s underpants fall down one afternoon as she watches the King parade by. Will her wardrobe malfunction cost him his respectability and his job? To help make ends meet, they also have a room for rent. Two men arrive who, unbeknownst to Theo, have each witnessed the event from close-at-hand — and each wants to rent the room.
