Teatro de la Luna presents the U.S. premiere of Mujeres al Poder (Kick-Butt Women), a broad satire based on Lady Godiva by Jean Canolle. English surtitles will be projected above the stage at all shows.
From the first moment – as is well known – it was Eve who was in control. But if any doubt remained, during a most violent and warn-torn
époque, when all was invasion, military, knights, armor and screams, there appeared the soft, ethereal, sweet and blonde Lady Godiva. And although it was unclear at the time, She knew what to do. Thus continued history until today, when we must again remember and call upon… KICK-BUTT WOMEN.
Oppressed by heavy taxes, citizens of Coventry (England) plead and demand in vain. Ironically, relief comes from the wife of the official who turns a deaf ear to their cries for help. Lady Godiva repeatedly asks her husband, Count Leofric (968-1057) to repeal the heavy burden, but he refuses. She persists, until her husband finally challenges her to ride through the town on horseback, naked and in daylight. She accepts his dare, and this historic procession converted her into Coventry’s heroine.
