About This Show

Bedbound was first produced by the Dublin Theatre Festival (2001) and has subsequently been produced in Edinburgh (Fringe First Winner), New York, London (Royal Court) and across Europe; it is now making its Washington DC premier with Solas Nua. Dan Brick directs.

A Father and a Daughter share a small bed. He talks frantically about his extraordinary past in furniture sales; she talks no less compulsively about anything at all, to fill the terrible silence in her head. Everything is frantic and broken and ugly because they can’t stop talking. If only they could stop and sleep.

“Takes over you mind.” — Ben Brantley, The New York Times

“One of the most disturbing, emotionally draining and completely brilliant theatrical experiences imaginable.” — The Irish Times

“One of the most startling pieces of writing to have emerged on the Irish
stage” — Irish Examiner

“You come to believe in the unbelievable. Walsh, in short, has created a fully realised, weirdly disorientating dramatic world unlike any you have previously encountered. Hypnotic and emotionally shattering, Bedbound is an uncomfortable, unforgettable tour de force.” — The Daily Telegraph

“”Powerful” is a word far over-used to describe theatre, but if I only get to use it once then it’s now. It was fooking amazing. Go.” — Salient
