A Comedy by George Bernard Shaw
Raina Petkoff is a young lady with dreamy romantic notions of war – her fiancé does look so dashing in his sparkling uniform. To her horror, her cherished illusions are challenged when a very ordinary soldier, running from a battle, sneaks through her bedroom window. She is shocked to learn that war is not about death-defying heroic deeds but rather about getting shot and the young man plans to avoid that. What’s even more alarming is that there’s a quirky warmth and wit about the runaway that not only charms her aristocratic family, but her ferocious fiancé as well.
