Malpass Brothers

Even before Merle Haggard invited 21-year-old Chris and 17-year-old Taylor onto his
bus to “pick a little” audiences knew this duo was special. Too often fads and styles
fade, music and language homogenize and all things “special” become relegated to
nostalgia. But what Merle and audiences found was real-time, current authenticity in
a country performance that had all too quickly slipped through Nashville’s grasp. Merle extended an
invitation to them to join his tour and for the next 7 years The Malpass Brothers were Merle’s opening act.

Their own next act was anything but set in stone.
They started small, having dad play bass and
bringing along a snare drum player named Dennis.
They played county fairs, church suppers, and the
odd bluegrass festival. Odd because electric
instruments and drums were frowned upon by the
bluegrass establishment – but before long they
were headlining those same festivals. 

 Their performance and personalities caught the
attention of Larry Black, host of Larry’s Country
Diner and producer of Country’s Family Reunion
both RFD TV
staples. Those
appearances led
to their own
contract with
the network for a
season of
shows. Now in it’s 3rd season, The Malpass Brothers Show continues in
the tradition of The Porter Waggoner Show and the Jimmy Dean Show, showcasing the talent of Country
Music newcomers, legends, and icons. 

 Whether playing The Grand Ole Opry, holding their weeklong residency in Branson or playing performing
arts centers across the country, The Malpass Brothers are consistent in that they know how to entertain an
audience while showing why heart-ache and heart-break make for a great country song.
