Blessed Assurance

About the Show

In Blessed Assurance, deep in the segregated south, the cook at the Whitehouse Cafe is adding a hearty serving of justice to the menu. Olivia has cooked for the all-white clientele at the cafe her entire life, but during the summer of 1964 she turns the tables on the racial inequities that she can no longer accept. Olivia’s quest to attain her basic civil rights challenges the beliefs and loyalties of everyone in town, including her boss – a man who looks upon her as a mother. With unfailing grace and irrepressible humor, Olivia discovers that sometimes you have to pull up a chair to take a stand.
