Driving Miss Daisy

About the Show

Set in 1948, just prior to the civil rights movement, this Pulitzer Prize-winning play offers a warm-hearted and humorous look at the unlikely relationship between an aging, crotchety white Southern woman and a proud, soft-spoken black man. Daisy Werthan’s son hires a chauffeur for her, Hoke, whom Miss Daisy immediately regards with disdain. Hoke, in turn, is not impressed with his employer’s patronizing tone and, he believes, her latent prejudice. But in a series of absorbing scenes spanning 25 years, the two, despite their mutual differences, grow ever closer and more dependent upon each other until, eventually, they become almost a couple, with more in common than they–or society- ever thought possible.
