J.S. Bach: St. John Passion

About the Show

For Passiontide, Concerts at Saint Thomas presents Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. John Passion, a profound musical meditation on the suffering and death of Christ. Performed by the Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys with the period instrument ensemble New York Baroque Incorporated, this masterwork unfolds with dramatic intensity, theological depth, and extraordinary musical beauty. The first of Bach's Passion settings to be completed, the Johannes-Passion remains one of the most compelling sacred works in the choral repertoire. Tenor Lawrence Jones sings the role of the Evangelist, with Paul Max Tipton in the role of Christus.
