The Gurdjieff Ensemble was founded by Levon Eskenian and features leading musicians in Armenian and Middle Eastern instruments.
Originally focused on authentic interpretations of the collaboration between Greek-Armenian mystic G.I. Gurdjieff and Ukrainian-born composer Thomas de Hartmann, which married Gurdjieff’s spiritual insights with Western classical music, Eskenian later expanded the Ensemble’s repertoire to include music from the Middle East, ancient and medieval Armenian folk and spiritual music, the music of Armenian composer Komitas, and works by contemporary composers.
The Ensemble's performances have been praised by major media, including The New York Times and The Guardian, for their hypnotic and atmospheric sound.
