What About a Place? What About The American Place is a Gala Benefit for Literature to Life, celebrating Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, by Jonathan Safran Foer.
The evening features a presentation of the Literature to Life Award to author Jonathan Safran Foer in recognition of his contribution to sharing a story of young grievance and perseverance with students. This award officially places JSF in the company of other notable authors whose work has been staged at The American Place including Khaled Hosseini, Tim O’Brien, Toni Morrison, Claude Brown, and Sue Monk Kidd.

Presentation of the debut stage performance of this best selling novel, performed by Haley March, adapted and directed by Wynn Handman. Costumes are provided by Academy Award winning costume designer Ann Roth and Michelle Matland.
A reception will follow with world-class catering by Colors Restaurant, a cooperative venture of former workers from Windows on the World, and cocktails from Rienzi, Emilio’s Terrace and DogFish Head Brewery. A gift bag will be offered to all guests and will contain items inspired by the novel including hardback American Heritage Dictionaries, Sam Ash drumsticks, Wallet Owl, and black backpacks by Kenneth Cole.
