Abingdon Theatre Company opens its 10th season with a staged reading of the Christopher Brian Wolk Award-winning script The Passion of Claire, written by Cheryl Royce and directed by William Lipscomb. The play is based on the true story of Claire, a Catholic nun who was brutally raped while praying alone in church. When she returns to wearing the traditional habit, Mother Superior sends her to the order’s psychiatrist – a Catholic priest named Dan. When Claire demands to know what God wants for her and her life, Dan’s own struggle for faith comes to light.
Prior to the reading, the Wolk Award will be presented to Ms. Royce and Abingdon will formally announce the 2002-03 Witter Bynner Playwright in Residence John Yearley.
