The Magic Flute

This beautiful story will be performed using W. H. Auden and Chester Kallman’s rarely heard English translation. The production is tailored to the enjoyment of an audience of all ages:

Prince Tamino, while out hunting, is chased by a serpent. Three mysterious ladies rescue him and kill the serpent. The Three Ladies, in service of the Queen of the Night, send Tamino and his new friend, Papageno, the Bird Catcher, on a quest. They must rescue the Princess Pamina from Sarastro, the wise priest of Isis and Osiris. Tamino accomplishes this and in so doing realizes that the evil Queen was trying to steal a secret relic from Sarastro. In the end, Tamino becomes a disciple of Sarastro, whose mildness and wisdom he has learned to admire. The prince and the princess are united.
