About This Show

Apocalypse. Romance. Bad girls getting spanked. Everyday, our worlds totter on the brink of extinction. Someone dies, you graduate, you fall in love — and reality crumbles.

The End of the Known World Plays pairs Juicy and Delicious by award-winning playwright Lucy Alibar with The Bird Stories by SLAM Theatre winner James Ryan Caldwell. Sharing a single company of actors, raw stagecraft and a gleefully black-tinged absurdism, the plays are two fairytales about coming of age and growing out of place in surreal locales: the Midwest and the rural South.

The Bird Stories, directed by Bethany Perkins, imagines a deeply religious Midwest shaken by the birth of a vengeful bird Messiah while offering an epic and irreverent chronicle of one boy’s journey to self-discovery. In order to protect the boy he loves, Meigh (pronounced “me”) must battle his family, the birds and even himself.

In the fantastical play-world of Juicy and Delicious, directed by Zoe Aja Moore and choreographed by Brian Maloney, things fall from the sky, extinct prehistoric beasts come back to life and eat the neighbor’s livestock, and ghosts live alongside the living. Here, nobody knows how to use words to express themselves, and punches and kisses come all at once.

The company of actors includes: Lucy Alibar, Elliotte Crowell, Aidan Kane, James Ryan Caldwell, Ben Maddocks, Brian Maloney, Tom Rothacker, Liz Wisan, and Eden Worsley.
