Sonnet Repertory Theatre is kicking off its sophomore season with this dizzying tale of religious bigotry, sexual hanky panky, false piety and weasily antics! First performed some 340 years ago, Tartuffe has not lost a stitch of relevance and as its classic plot unwinds, scores of contemporary parallels abound. This sophisticated comedy, set in 17th-Century Paris, revolves around the cunning attempts of Tartuffe, a conman posing as a religious guru, to bamboozle Orgon, his benefactor. He aims to seduce Orgon’s wife, marry his daughter and swindle him of all he possesses.
There is an additional Saturday Matinee on Saturday, May 1st at 2pm.
