“I laughed out loud and held my breath at tender moments. It’s fragile and sweet, funny and sad. It’s so original, you couldn’t make it up if you tried; yet it rings true.” –TalkinBroadway.com
The Unofficial New York Yale Cabaret (UNYYC), a new seasonal theatre company made up of Yale School of Drama graduates and one of NYTheatre.com’s “People of the Year 2005,” presents the NY premiere of Separating the Men from the Bull, written by Mike Heintzman and Neal Lerner and directed by Becky London. In this original comedy, two actors portray various characters in seven inventive and insightful vignettes that expose the intricacies of male friendships. Together they explore how friendships can be found, lost, built and broken. A unique, smart and silly romp through the trials and tribulations of being male. The play was workshopped under the guidance of Tony Award-winning Director John Rando (Urinetown) and will feature Tony Award-nominated actor Daniel Jenkins (Big River, Angels in America, Big) and co-author Neal Lerner (A Mother, a Daughter and a Gun, Fuddy Meers, And the Band Played On).
“Absurd? Yes, and darkly comic, too. Their sharp but not too caustic comedy, ‘Separating the Men from the Bull’ …deserves a look.”
-Star Tribune
“A marvelous deconstruction of masculinity.”
-John Townsend, KFAI Radio
“…with humor and insight, explores the nature of male relationships. It’s an entertaining and promising premise in days when regular guys in popular culture rend to be depicted as clueless idiots.”
-St. Paul Pioneer
“The comic pastiche ‘Separating the Men from the Bull’, explodes male mythology…reinforces the absurdity of the male bonding process.”
-The Minnesota Daily
