In Savage Nursery, Erin Orr creates a mysterious fairytale, for mature audiences, told without text, that explores how identity is shaped and revealed by hunger, cruelty, loneliness and resilience. This world premiere, commissioned by HERE’s Dream Music Puppetry Program, follows the misfortunes of a ravenous toothy bird as he is rejected from the nest,
tormented by a flock of older sibling blue birds and taken into the questionable care of the wild children who live beneath the tree. Through
these tales, the defiant bird is ultimately transformed into his true human
self, thus joining the society of unwanted children.
