Oberon Theatre presents Road to Nirvana. In Arthur Kopit’s take-no-prisoners satire, the aphrodisiac is power. Al is a fast-talking independent producer who would sell his own mother to close a deal (and probably has). In an effort to make a film about the world’s biggest rock star, Nirvana, he summons Jerry, his burned-out former partner who he betrayed many years before. Cautious at first, Jerry soon ignores his better judgment, becoming seduced by Al’s promises and salivating at the chance to get back in the game. But the price to do so is high and in order to prove his worth, Jerry, like a junkie begging for his next fix, must debase and demean himself in ways he never thought possible. Essentially, he must surrender his very soul, something both Al and Nirvana did a long time ago.
