About the Show

The show is an original piece reflecting on the impact of war and world events over the past three years since 9/11. Using a cinematic aesthetics to present a “screenplay for the stage,” Ripples is a series of snapshots of human lives in New York, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Spain, conveying the diverse ways in which the “ripples” of 9/11 have affected the humanity worldwide. The performance on September 11, 2004 is a benefit for The Children’s Aid Society.

Three years after the tragedy of 9/11, the human cost of terror-and the war on terror-continues to mount in the United States and worldwide. Instead of focusing on the political ramifications of these events, Ripples offers a glimpse into individual lives, probing the impact at a human level. The production’s cinematic approach makes it possible to maintain the global nature of this very personal story. Both its narrative structure – a “montage” of short scenes – and its aesthetics – the production is seen through a screen – allow the production to move rapidly around the world while honing in on the minute details of each scene.
