theAter presents the world premiere of the performing version of Fred Kolo’s adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s Salome. Set in Palestine under the Roman occupation at the time of Christ, the play recounts the biblical tale of Salome’s dance before King Herod for the head of John the Baptist. It is Wilde’s poem to the pain and poetry of sexual longing. As director, Kolo seeks to eliminate pictorial elements and provide a rehearsal atmosphere in which the discipline of text can be balanced with the freedom to allow the actors’ individual impulses, knowing that the life of the production continually grows, contracts and changes, remaining malleable but alive.
