About This Show

Memoirs of a Manic Depressive is a one-man tour-de-force written by Gary Mizel, directed by Lorca Peress, and performed by Dexter Brown. Memoirs of a Manic Depressive is a gripping emotional play with humorous elements that takes us through the chapters in the life of a man dealing with bi-polar disorder. Playwright Mizel, who is bi-polar, examines not only the isolation experienced by mentally ill people shunned by society and the government, but also the universal issues such as romance and relationships that plague them. Through Mizel’s Memoirs, we begin to comprehend life from a bi-polar perspective, and witness a man trying to make sense of his manic hallucinations, suicidal thoughts, and his role in our society.
