Performed aboard the oldest running ferry boat in the world, which served Ellis Island during the height of immigration to America, Libby Skala’s solo play brilliantly portrays her immigrant grandmother Lilia Skala, the first female architect in Austria and stage star in Max Reinhardt’s theatre who fled Hitler and became a refugee in New York, working her way from zipper factory to 1963 Oscar nomination (Lilies of the Field). Out of this remarkable journey emerges the touching relationship with her granddaughter.
