About This Show

As the sun goes down, she appears. The campesinos who travel alone through dirt roads see her washing and crying. Passing clouds reveal her beauty beating clothes in the moonlight. She draws them near. She says she’s lost her child and that she needs a ride. As they head towards town, the truck fills with an obscene stench of hog feces and rotting flesh. His deceived eyes realize, it is…the Siguanaba!

IMAGINATIONEXPLOSION presents a LACAP Theater Department production, The Legend of the Siguanaba. The Central American folktale, “Siguanaba” warns against the dangers of staying out after nightfall. It is an interwoven mythology of a cursed woman and her abandoned son, whom create victims of circumstance.

The Latin American Community Art Project (LACAP) is a group of young artists who have joined together in order to combine their various areas of artistic expertise for the common good of creating new forms of social awareness between the international visitors to and residents of local communities in Latin America. The program draws upon local heritage, culture, and resources, which in many communities have been increasingly endangered.
