Horizon Theatre Rep presents Republic on the Brink – Roman Plays for America’s 250th, Fragmented for the Digital Age.
On July 4, 2026, America marks 250 years of independence. But the Republic arrived eight years later. Independence is a birth. A Republic is a choice.
Rome made the same journey: revolution to Republic to Empire. Their playwrights warned them. We’re performing those warnings—in fragments, online, on the streets, in public spaces.
The Season (in fragments):
The Rape of Lucrece – One woman’s sacrifice sparks a revolution.
Julius Caesar – Noble intentions, political murder, civil war.
Cato – The play that inspired Washington. A senator’s last stand.
Caesar at the Rubicon – One river. One choice. No coming back.
Octavia – Nero’s Rome. Citizens powerless. A Republic silenced.
Sejanus His Fall – Corruption. Ambition. The rot within.
Comedies of Plautus & Terence – Laughter as freedom.
