New York City
Throughout the rambling, wide-open spaces, stairwells, fire escapes, back alleys and rooftops of the Old American Can Factory, the New York City-based experimental performance company WaxFactory presents LADYFROMTHESEA, a site-specific, multi-media, contemporary adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s 19th-century classic, The Lady from the Sea. The production is adapted and directed by Ivan Talijancic, and will be the theatrical highlight of the 10th annual International Ibsen Conference in New York, which each year celebrates the work of the beloved Norwegian playwright, widely recognized as the father of modern drama.
Presented in 12 different settings through which the audience will travel, the production takes a most novel and contemporary approach to Ibsen’s play about a young woman, trapped in a loveless marriage, who is forever drawn to the sea and the haunting memories it evokes of a former lover. Ivan Talijancic directs.
