Urban Stages presents Bruce Graham’s new play about prisoners on Death Row. Coyote on a Fence is a story ripped from today’s headlines. Two inmates, political activist John Brennan and white-power racist Bobby Alvin Reyburn, are in prison on “the row” awaiting the electric chair. John is a literate and articulate man who plays chess by mail, lobbies for Truffault films to be shown on the rec room television and publishes a newspaper from his cell called The Death Row Advocate. It is this “hobby” that attracts the ire of prison officials, as well as the attention of Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter Sam Fried.
