The fourth annual Chekhov Now Fesitval celebrates the life and works of Anton Chekhov with new plays and musicals, as well as new adaptations based on the Russian dramatist’s plays, fictions, farces, and letters. The festival’s nine mainstage productions include Gull (based on the text of The Seagull, with minimal movement and design), Rothchild’s Fiddle (based on Chekhov’s novella), Moscow (a musical adaptation of Three Sisters in which three gay men trapped in a deserted theatre have only the script of Chekhov’s play to ward off despair), Three Sisters, The Cherry Orchard, and The Ghosts of Firs Nikolaich (a “sequel” to The Cherry Orchard).
