About This Show

Between the Seas Festival returns to the East Village for its summer celebration of contemporary Mediterranean culture!

Between the Seas festival will bring an exciting selection of performances from the Mediterranean presented alongside some of the most interesting, up and coming NYC-based Mediterranean artists. The festival aims at showcasing the talent of the emerging generation of Mediterranean performers and the diversity of the region’s culture.

Highlights of this year’s festival include: NYC-based Turkish choreographer Korhan Basaran, with his new work RAu; Greek director/performer Olga Pozeli in a solo performance exploring the limits of political corruption and responsibility; Israeli choreographers and dancers Rachel Erdos/Ido Tadmor and Noa Dar with their highly poetic works And Mr. and Arnica; Mancopy Dance Company from Denmark and their newest collaboration with dancers from Lebanon, Egypt and Palestine; and Lebanese director Lina Abiad with I.D., a new performance piece engaging with the theme of transgender identities in the Mediterranean. In addition to the main program, special screenings, staged readings, and educational programs (collaborations with documentarist M. Karimi-Hakak, director Kareem Fahmy, and the Lower East Side Tenement Museum) will open the dialogue with the audience and give platform to works in progress.
