New Georges presents a brief revival of Anna Bella Eema, the acclaimed new work from Obie Award winners Katie Pearl and Lisa D’Amour, January 9 to 11 at HERE Arts Center.
Anna Bella Eema, the tale of a poor woman and her daughter fighting eviction from their trailer, is a spoken-and-sung three-character ghost story featuring werewolves, police chases, and little girls giggling underneath the house. Lisa D’Amour is interested in women striving to speak and to be heard, to own an opinion, and to trust their insticts – topics that show up in all her work. Fanciful and imagistic, rough yet lyrical, the language Lisa’s characters speak adds to the heightened, visceral experience of her work.
