About the Show

The very first play extant in the Western tradition is Aeschylus’ The Persians. What is more remarkable than its date (472 B.C.) is that never since has any playwright written with so much sympathy and insight of the suffering that his own country inflicted on an enemy. A mere 8 years before he wrote the play, the playwright himself fought in the decisive battle that devastated the imperialistic Persian army. When this play speaks of war, it is, in every way, with the authority of experience.

The opening night performance on Sunday, January 11 starts at 7pm. For further exceptions to the performance schedule, visit Pearl’s website at www.pearltheatre.org.
