About This Show

Maripat Donovan, creator of the long-running, international hit Late Nite Catechism, brings her sharp-tongued humor to the Christmas holidays in an uproarious interactive search through Bethlehem for the Magi’s gold. Sister’s Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi’s Gold makes its New York premiere for two performances only.

Sister, played by Maripat Donovan, opens the show with the premise: “we know where the myrrh went and how the frankincense was used, but who’s the culprit who made off with the gold and left Mary, Joseph and the infant Jesus in that lousy stable without any chance to upgrade to a suite?” Taking every opportunity along the way to educate her “students,” Sister analyzes the lyrics to Christmas carols, dissects a nativity scene, and recruits members of the audience to help reenact the events of the night in question. It’s “CSI” goes to Bethlehem, as she hunts under manger and over camel hump in her never-ending search. A sleigh full of free gifts – plus the cherubic voices of a local children’s choir – round out the mystery. Combining religious history, contemporary humor and knuckle-rapping discipline, Sister and her Christmas catechism can appeal to even the most non-denominational audience.
