Bizet’s masterpiece brilliantly transplanted by Oscar Hammerstein from Spain to the American South. Not seen in New York in several decades, Carmen Jones is the only adaptation of a classical opera to become a long running hit. It originally premiered on Broadway in 1943. This musical is part of the York Theatre’s Musicals in Mufti series.
